You probably seen this in hobby stores or game stores like GameStop, Box Lunch or even Hot Topic. They are called Pop figures and thanks to the company Funko, many characters from video games, cartoons, anime, comics and other pop culture genre have been converted to these bobble head like figures. Some actually are bobble heads while others just have a stiff head. Think of these as the bobble heads from sports like the NFL and NBA, but instead of collecting your favorite athletes, you’re collecting your favorite characters from Marvel, Dragon Ball, Batman or even Rugrats. I will be sharing you my collection and I will give you a brief description about how I got them.
As we are now in March, we are about a month (if you want to get technical, a few weeks) away until we get the spinoff anime Sword Art Online: Alternative Gun Gale Online. Recently, Sword Art Online revealed on another updated news in regards to the anime.
Revealed on the Japanese official Twitter of the anime, veteran anime singer Eir Aoi will be singing the opening song to the spinoff anime. The opening song is titled, “Ryūsei” (Falling Star).
If you haven’t been caught on the news and Sword Art Online, here is what’s going on:
- Sword Art Online: Alternative Gun Gale Online is a spinoff anime focusing on Gun Gale Online which debuted in the main story of Sword Art Online season 2 in the first 14 episodes.
- Recently, Eir Aoi came out of hiatus after dealing with some health issues.
- The spin off anime is planned to come out at April along with other anime titles like Attack on Titan and My Hero Academia (both season 3).
- The ending song will be sung by Tomori Kusunoki, who is also the voice of the protagonist Llenn. (the name of the song doesn’t have name yet)
Although some people may like to be alone at times, we all have that one special friend or a squad of friends who we kick it and have some good laughs and fun with. However, there are friendships that don’t last a lifetime and usually, they end due to a falling out or a misunderstanding. For this month’s topic, we will be exploring some of the best friendships in anime and pop culture as well as the friendships that ended suddenly. We will talk about what a true friendship means to us, what we learned about ourselves and others through broken friendships, and our definitions of a “good friend.”
*Will contain spoilers to the Sword Art Online (season 1) anime
Announced at a fan event called SAO and GGO New Anime and Original Work Stage, Kazuma Miki stated that the upcoming Sword Art Online season 3 anime will cover the entire Alicization arc. Kazuma Miki is the light novel editor to the story and producer to the anime. Reki Kawahara is the creator and author of the light novel series Sword Art Online. From assumption, rather than having multiple arcs like the past seasons, season will only be focused on Alicization (SAO season 1 had the Sword Art Online and Fairy Dance arcs, and season 2 had Phantom Bullet, Calibur and Mother Rosario arcs). In the light novels, the Alicization arc covers volume 9-18 and it takes place after the events in Mother Rosario and Ordinal Scale movie.
Also announced from the event, we got news on who will sing for the opening and ending song for the spin-off anime, Sword Art Online Alternative Online. It’s been revealed that the voice actress Tomori Kusunoki will be performing for both songs for the anime. It’s unknown what is the name of the songs, but Kusunoki will be doing both parts. She is also the voice actress for the character Llenn. This anime is set to be premiered in April this year.
Mentioned last year, SAO fans will be getting Sword Art Online season 3 and a spinoff anime based on Gun Gale Online.
Announced at ANN, the spinoff series Sword Art Online Alternative: Gun Gale Online will be premiering in April. The series is based on Keiichi Sigsawa’s Light Novel. Here is the cast for the characters:
The story follows Karen Kohiruimaki, a 183-centimeter-tall (6-foot-tall) college student who’s insecure her height, and is bad at dealing with people in the real world. She enters the world of Gun Gale Online with her avatar, Llenn, who is less than 150 centimeters (5 feet) tall and wears all pink. She meets a beautiful, brown-skinned female player who goes by Pitohui. They hit it off, but one day Pitohui pressures her to participate in “Squad Jam,” a team Battle Royale variation of the Bullet of Bullets tournament.
The characters Llenn and Pitohui will be playable characters in the upcoming Sword Art Online video game Sword Art Online: Fatal Bullet in February.
You might be wondering the title and the purpose of this post, there’s a funny story behind this. I am good friends with my anime and colleague friend Allie from Visionaries and we whenever we text each other, we have a really long conversation on anything. Whether it is anime, cartoons and just life, we can go on for hours; however, one day, we had an interesting topic in which also inspired me to write this post. As usual we were talking about anime and how much it would be cool to leave reality and jump into our favorite anime. He texted me this comment but she called it a “rant”:
Go on some sort of adventure become our own heroes. Live in a world where we can be us and that’s good enough. Where words only positivity and people look on the bright side instead of dwelling on the negative. To face their problems instead of keeping them bottles up until they explode :). Oh the naive mind is back to reality now.
This got me thinking, if it’s possible to leave reality for a day and enter any world in the anime I seen is, I would do it. Some people might agree with me in this comment especially if you like anime. Most of us had this deep wish where we can have the ability to go our favorite anime. After hearing her say this, I added my own comment to hers and I told her why I want do it if I could jump into anime:
I would love to visit that world. Take me to Sword Art Online and let me go on quests or Yu-Gi-Oh! and let me duel with my monsters. Take me to a world where my average “me” can be greater. 😀
This may sound silly the way I said it but wouldn’t it be awesome? Imagine leaving your average or boring life for a day, months or whatever time you desire and escape to somewhere where you are the hero or at least feel important. Basically, what I am saying is this: if there was a way to enter a world where you leave your dull life and enter a new world where you can live your favorite anime world or worlds, would you do it?
Personally, I would. In my daily life, I usually live just an average routine where I watch anime or just do my daily chores. Whenever I see anime characters in action or doing something exciting, I get envious. Like a kid who wants to be their favorite superhero, I like to dream and wanting to be something great like my favorite characters. If I can jump into worlds of anime, I would be hero in Dragon Ball Z, travel and enjoy solitude in Sword Art Online, or even obtain some powerful beings in Yu-Gi-Oh!.
The anime world is more bizarre than JoJo’s Bizarre Aventure but that’s okay, it just means the norm is the oddities itself like the anime Durarara!! Can it be dangerous? Yes! Will you survive? Of course if you have the right skills and ideal anime.
If somehow or someone came to you and asked if you could jump into any anime world you desire, where would you go?
If there was a rabbit hole like Alice in Wonderland where anime logic exist and all reality doesn’t, would you dig deeper?
Or better yet, if there was a door and it says “door way to anime”, would you open that door and not look back?
What would you do and where do you want to go?

With the criticism of the Death Note Netflix film and the live-action announcement with J. J. Abrams directing Your Name. you think Hollywood would take the hint and stop making live-action movies of anime. However, that won’t stop them when they have permission and money. Already mentioned a while back, Skydance Television announced that they want to do a live-action series of the anime Sword Art Online. Recently, Skydance Television announced that they found some new writers to help lead the project. These writer-producers Patrick Massett and John Zinman made a deal with Kadowawa Corp to help create the live-action series. Patrick and John are responsible for the works of Lara Croft: Tomb Raider (2001 version with Angelina Jolie), The Blacklist and Friday Night Lights.
The pilot episode will, however, be written together with Laeta Kalogridis (Avatar). Here is a quote from Hollywood Reporter:
“Patrick and John have shown incredible range in their storytelling capabilities, from subtle character drama to big, world-building action, and we are beyond fortunate that they have joined the Skydance family,” said Skydance Television president Marcy Ross. “We’re already deep in development with Patrick, John and Laeta on our larger-than-life Skydance SAO series in which we aim not only to satisfy the franchise’s enthusiastic sci-fi and anime fan base but also to appeal to new TV audiences the world over.”
“The fantastical world of SAO offers an unparalleled opportunity to tell stories that resonate on both an epic and human scale. We couldn’t ask for better partners than Skydance and Laeta to help us bring this global pop culture phenomenon to new life on television,” said Massett and Zinman in a joint statement.
