No Laptops, No Wi-Fi: How One Cafe Fired Up Sales

After reading this news article, I am surprise to find out that there is such things of a cafe that doesn’t allow any electronic devices and no access to Wi-Fi. I believe that this makes sense, because a cafe is not just place to hangout and check your account online but it is also a place where people can dine and socialize in person. The purpose of doing this risky move was because of the lack seats in the cafe, which is called August First Bakery, many people would still be in their seats and using either their cell phones or laptops. With the lack of seats increased, the less of customers increased. Surprising, after the decision, more people came to the cafe to eat and socialize; if people continued to focus on screens, from cell phones or laptops, the social atmosphere would fall and many people will feel some hostility.

  1. I would like to believe technology has became both a good and bad aspect in our youth of today. I mean it has made things easier in our daily lives. However, it does make us rely on socializing in a more virtual way which makes the world more isolated and unalert to our surroundings.

  2. This article really made me wonder how big of a problem this actually is for cafes. I never really thought about how much this type of behavior would affect their sales. I wonder, if because of this cafe’s results, if other cafes might be tempted to follow suit.
